The Jungfrau Marathon is arguably the world’s most beautiful marathon course with its marvelous mountain scenery and dramatic change in landscape between the start in Interlaken and the finish on Kleine Scheidegg. The difference in altitude of 1829 metres also makes it one of the most challenging marathons on the European calendar. There are no other marathons in Europe with such a large elevation gain. Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau – three of the most famous peaks of the Swiss Alps – loom over the course providing some much needed distractions for the thousands of competitors.
Entries open in February every year and close when the 4,000 participant quota is reached. Entrants receive pace runners, a medical team, t-shirts, certificates, medals, refreshment stations, food, timing tags and a race number as part of their fee. For those who aren’t up to the full marathon, there is also a mini-marathon (4.2 km) and a mini run for children and teenagers (< 2 km).
