The Niseko classic was organized for the first time in 2014 and obtained the status of the UCI for its third edition on a difficult and scenic mountain route on Japan's northern island. The area is a well-known ski area in winter. In 2016 the Boardman Niseko Classic race is a UCI Gran Fondo World Series event, providing riders with the chance to qualify for the 2016 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships race in Perth, Australia.
Enjoying closed roads, clean air and beautiful vistas, the 140km course includes 2,362m of vertical, leading competitors up the awe-inspiring Panorama Line climb, out to the Sea of Japan, and back to Niseko Hirafu Resort. A 70km race category is also available, providing a shorter challenge (1,125m vertical) and finishing together in Niseko Hirafu Resort.
