The New York City Marathon is the largest and quite possibly the most famous marathon in the world. The event has grown from a Central Park race with 55 finishers to the world’s biggest and most popular marathon, with 50,530 finishers in 2014. Starting in Staten Island, due south of Manhattan, the runners make their way through all 5 boroughs of New York City before eventually finishing the run in Central Park in front of thousands of spectators. It is held on the first Sunday of November ever year and has been running since 1970.
Due to the immense popularity of the event participants are chosen largely by a lottery system that starts taking applications in January every year. There are however ways to get a guaranteed place. These include entering with the charity program, meeting the requirements of the New York Road Runners or by meeting the qualifying time standards. More information can be found here.
Included in the entry fee:
US participants - $255 USD
International - $347 USD
