The Marathon du Medoc is celebrated as the world’s longest marathon, not because of the distance but due to the time it takes participants to complete the course. The route takes runners through 59 vineyards of the Medoc region where they are offered numerous wine tastings and other culinary delights from the region. Amongst other things, oysters, steak, cheese and ice cream are almost always on the menu. To add to the glitz and glamour of the event, there are also dancers and musicians lined along the course. Created in 1984 by a group of passionate marathon fans, the marathon nicknamed the "Medoc" has become a must for many marathon runners all over the world.
The Marathon du Medoc gathers momentum every year with more than 9000 registered participants in the most recent edition. More than 90% of competitors dress up in costumes, adding to the already festive atmosphere of the event.
