The Hell of the West is one of Australia’s toughest & most challenging races. Not for the faint hearted, it is a 2km swim, 80km bike ride and 20-km run. Run in the murky waters of the Macintyre River and the blazing heat of the Goondiwindi summer!
2km swim - this consists of a 1km upstream then a 1km downstream return, in the MacIntyre River (freshwater!!) starting and finishing at the Town Boat ramp. Please note that long and short sleeved wetsuits are not permitted unless water temperature is 23 degrees or below.
80km ride - this is “dead flat”, 40 km west out the Barwon Highway towards St George and return. The road surface is reasonable with some short sections that require car. Please note that this is NOT a closed road.
20km run - this consists of three loops heading towards the western edge of town. Aid stations are placed every kilometre.
Goondiwindi is located 363km south west of Brisbane on the Queensland/New South Wales border and is at the junction of five major highways. The population is around 5000 and the town services another 6000 in the surrounding Waggamba and Moree Plains Shire Councils. Over $12 000 worth of prize money and prizes, with $8000 prize money up for grabs in the male and female elite category as well as prize money for all age group winners.
